Dr. Sally Meade is a General Surgeon with post-fellowship training and a particular interest in Breast and Endocrine Surgery.

With more than 20 years of experience, her extensive training has provided her with the skills to offer a comprehensive service to her patients.

Professional Background

Dr Meade completed her Royal Australasian College of Surgeons fellowship in 2002 and obtained her postgraduate fellowship in the specialty of Breast and Endocrine Surgery in 2004 at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.  

Career

Post-fellowship, Dr Meade returned to Townsville with her young family, where she provided exceptional specialist breast & endocrine surgical care to the North Queensland and wider community at Mater Hospital Townsville & Townsville University Hospital for almost 20 years. 

In 2022, as her children had grown up and moved away to university, for family reasons and to embrace new surgical opportunities, Dr Meade relocated back to Brisbane, where she practices privately out of Greenslopes Private Hospital & Mater Private Hospital Brisbane.

She has a public appointment at Mater Hospital Brisbane (Breast & Endocrine Surgery) and continues her public appointment at the Townsville University Hospital (Endocrine Surgery).

Professional Affiliations & Contributions

Dr Meade is a member of several professional organisations, which include Breast Surgeons of Australia and New Zealand (BreastSurgANZ), Australian and New Zealand Endocrine Surgeons, General Surgeons of Australia, Australian Medical Association, International Society of Surgery, International Association of Endocrine Surgeons and Breast Surgery International. She reviews breast and endocrine surgical publications for the ANZ Journal of Surgery and the World Journal of Surgery, and contributes to the BreastSurgANZ National Breast Cancer Audit.

Outside of her elective surgery roles, Dr Meade participates in the emergency general surgery on-call roster, privately at Greenslopes Private Hospital and publicly at Mater Adult Hospital Brisbane.

Passion for Education & Mentorship

Dr Meade is a passionate educator with a graduate diploma in surgical education from the University of Melbourne. She is a Senior Lecturer in Surgery and a former Surgery Curriculum and Examinations Coordinator at James Cook University (JCU) College of Medicine and Dentistry. She is also a Senior Lecturer in Surgery at the University of Queensland and Intern Term Supervisor for the Breast Endocrine Surgery Unit at Mater Hospital Brisbane.

Dr Meade is an examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons General Surgery Fellowship Examinations and is dedicated to teaching and mentoring students at all levels, from undergraduate medical students to advanced surgical trainees and fellows.
